Stuck under a mountain of HR administrators? We can sympathize!
Don’t worry, if you want a solution, you’ve come to the right place.
In this blog, I’ve explained how HR self-service can empower workers and free up time for HR professionals, and I’ve also highlighted some key points raised by our Chief People Officer, Lizzy Barry, during a recent webinar.
So, if you’re curious about how self-service could allow you to focus on more strategic work, read on.
What is HR self-service?
HR self-service, also known as employee self-service (ESS), is a digital platform integrated with HR software that allows staff to independently manage their HR-related tasks, such as:
- Updating personal data
- Access payroll and benefits information
- Recording of working hours
- Request leave
- Register for training programs
- Viewing Company Policies
The goal of self-service is to improve operational efficiency, minimize data errors, and enable workers to handle routine tasks independently.
Lizzy explained by saying: “A real value add for HR teams of all sizes is giving employees the ability to help themselves when we need them to do something or provide us with information.
“Being able to give them a place to do it themselves not only means the information is absolutely accurate, as they are the ones directly entering the information, but it also reduces the dreaded manual entry. »
How does HR self-service work?
Typically, a self-service platform is cloud-based and accessible via a mobile app or web browser, meaning staff can use it from any location via a device with an internet connection.
Whether employees are in the office, hybrid, or fully remote, through the self-service portal they can log in and take care of routine tasks.
HR Self-Service Use Cases
With the power of the cloud, mobile apps and web portals, employees can manage a wide range of basic tasks themselves, without having to involve managers or HR, including:
- Document management: Self-service portals allow employees to access crucial HR and payroll documents, such as contracts, payslips, P60s, manuals, etc.
- Centralized files: With self-service, you can collect all the information you need from your employees, such as emergency contacts, home address, and accessibility needs, to name a few, by asking them to enter it through the portal.
- Absence management: your employees can view their leave balances and request time off from any device.
- Learning and Development (L&D): Employees can register for training sessions and follow the courses taken, promoting continuous growth while making it easier to manage personal development plans.
Lizzy shared some insight into her experience with self-service, saying: “One of the things that What’s really useful about self-service is that you can automate tasks that employees need to do regularly.
“Every year at IRIS, for example, we receive an automated email addressed to our employees, asking them to check that their contact details, such as their address and bank details, are still correct.
“Rather than having to contact each employee individually and gather all this information to update it manually, the self-service system, combined with automated workflows, can do it for us.
“In human resources, we can often get bogged down in manual work, but the system allows us to do this in a very simple way. »
What are the benefits of HR self-service?
For growing companies with a high volume of HR administration, it is essential to equip employees and managers with effective tools.
